The Lineage of the Immortals: Are You Ready to Discover the Power Within?

"Greetings to you, daughters of Zeus, give me your magical voice and celebrate through my tongue the lineage of the immortals... How the gods, to whom we owe every being, were born, how they shared their glory and honor, and how they settled on the winding Olympus... We who were born of mother earth and the starry sky, from the dark night, from the bitter waters of the sea. Rhea gave birth to Zeus, to me (Poseidon), to Hades who rules the dead, the world was divided into three, all three of us took our share, the foaming sea and the vast oceans fell to me..."

The date was May 16, 2015. On a warm Aegean evening, I was in the Ancient City of Priene in the Söke district of Aydın. In the thousands-of-years-old amphitheater, I was playing Poseidon, the god of the seas, in the theatrical play 'Anatolian Gods' directed by the beloved Ayla Algan. In the script I created myself, I was talking about the creation of the lineage of the immortals in Greek mythology, just as I wrote above...

So, who were these immortals? Where had they come from? Where should we look for them? Come, as we pursue these questions, let's embark on a mysterious and exciting journey toward Olympus, the home of the gods, where we will be companions to one another.

Those Who Came from the Skies: The Anunnaki and Sumerian Tablets

One of the most interesting theories in popular culture regarding the topic of gods belongs to the author Zecharia Sitchin. His theory is based on the Anunnaki, which means 'those who came down from the skies' in Sumerian.

According to Sitchin's theory, the prominent details about the Anunnaki are as follows:

  • They came from Nibiru, the mysterious, yet undiscovered tenth planet in our solar system.

  • They needed the element of gold to repair the atmosphere of their own planet.

  • About 430,000 years ago, they landed in the Persian Gulf region and colonized our planet to mine gold.

  • According to Sumerian tablets, they created humans to perform this heavy labor.

While these claims remain up for debate, let's look at the reflections of the word Anunnaki in other cultures. Anunnaki corresponds to Anakeim and Elohim in ancient Hebrew, and Neter in the Egyptian language. Translators have generally translated these concepts, called 'Neter' in ancient Egypt, as 'Gods'. However, whether this translation accurately reflects the depth of the Egyptian concept of Neter is still a subject of research.

Carl Jung and Archetypes: The Divine Light Within Us

One of the figures who conducted the most profound research on these concepts called 'Neter' or Gods is Carl Gustav Jung, the founder of Analytical Psychology.

According to Analytical Psychology, our mind consists of layers, and our personal unconscious is connected to the 'collective unconscious', which is the common heritage of all humanity. According to Jung, this realm is composed of archetypes, the fundamental building blocks of the collective unconscious. Archetypes are independent of time and space; they appear in all cultures and historical periods.

Jung describes this structure within us as follows: "God, without the help of man, created his truly incomprehensible, sublime, and mysteriously contradictory image and introduced it into the individual's unconscious as an archetype, an archetypal light."

The strongest message here is the discovery of the 'God within'. The adventure of self-discovery is also the adventure of discovering this archetypal power within us, that is, our creative potential.

From the Cinema Screen to Our Inner Journey: Clash of the Titans

Just as we do in the Sinedrama approach, we can see the journeys of characters in films as a mirror of our own inner transformation. The movie 'Clash of the Titans', released in 2010, is a wonderful example that portrays exactly this archetypal awakening.

The film tells the story of a hero, Perseus, who realizes that the only way to win the war against the darkness and terrifying monsters within is to accept the divine power (his own potential) inside himself. Born a god but raised as a human, Perseus is unaware of his power, and he can only overcome obstacles when he claims his own truth and the colossal power within him.

Taking Our Own Responsibility

The famous mythologist Joseph Campbell states that the texts in holy books and mythological texts actually tell the same universal truth. According to Campbell, none of us are any different from Perseus when it comes to accepting our own roots and power.

Lost in the rush of daily life, we often lift our heads to the sky and wait for saviors. However, Campbell sincerely whispers that tremendous truth to us:

"All the gods, all the heavens, and all the hells are within you."

As it has been for thousands of years, we can look for power on the outside and place the responsibility on those who will come from the skies. Or, we can remember that the great power we are looking for is actually within us, in our own center, and we can compassionately take responsibility for our lives.

Come on, let's walk together on this path by becoming aware of the roles we play and awakening our inner power. The choice is yours!

📌

What does Anunnaki mean? Anunnaki, a Sumerian word, means "those who came down from the skies". According to the theories of author Zecharia Sitchin, the Anunnaki are extraterrestrial beings who came to our world from a planet called Nibiru and are depicted as gods in Sumerian mythology.

What is an archetype and how does Carl Jung define archetypes? An archetype consists of universal symbols, behavioral patterns, and centers of power located in the common memory of humanity (the collective unconscious). According to Carl Jung, archetypes are mental images that appear commonly in myths, fairy tales, and dreams across all cultures and throughout history.

How does the Sinedrama approach combine mythology and psychology? Sinedrama is a transformation method that blends the universal language of cinema, creative drama, and archetypal psychology. It uses the hero's journey in films (for example, in Clash of the Titans) and mythological themes as a powerful mirror for individuals to become aware of their own inner world, their masks, and the roles they play in their lives.
